A Zen Story

One day Mara, the Evil One, was traveling through the villages of India with his attendant. They saw a man whose face was lit up in wonder. The man had just discovered something on the ground in front of him. Mara’s attendant asked what that was and Mara replied, "A piece of truth."

"Doesn’t this bother you when someone finds a piece of truth, O Evil One?" his attendant asked. "No," Mara replied. "Right after this, they usually make a belief out of it."

It is not a belief if you have found a piece of something - it is a fact.

Belief is for what you can't touch.

Robert, is it always the case? People believed that the world was the center of the universe, because they saw the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.

Fair enough. My statement is a bit loose.

So tell me, how would you know a piece of truth if you saw one?

@Robert, I would simply turn it into a belief, and then believe it to be true.
